In general, Anthem Direct underwriting is relatively liberal. An Anthem Direct policy is either issued to you, or it is not. There is no in between. So if you have acne or hypertension, for example, and your application is approved, you will have coverage for all the conditions provided for in the policy, including those that were pre-existing before you applied. There are some individual health insurance carriers who may offer you a policy, but decline to cover certain pre-existing conditions indefinitely. Anthem does not do that...which is a good thing.
