Who is the Health Reinsurance Association (HRA)?
The Connecticut Health Care Act of 1975 created the Health Reinsurance Association (HRA) to make available to eligible individuals in Connecticut a comprehensive health care plan designed to help meet medical costs of non-occupational injuries and diseases.
HRA is a non-profit association comprised of all private insurance companies and HMOs that provide health insurance in Connecticut.
This is the final place of hope for anyone who cannot find individual or family health insurance due to health problems. If you have been declined for medical insuance from private health insurance carriers, and you are not self-employed, the buck stops here. In some cases, you may be able to qualify for Medicare by way of a disability. Contact your local Social Security office to see if you are eligable to apply.
The HRA plans vary and certainly are not cheap. But they have been a real life saver for some who could not qualilfy for health care in any other way.
